Class Monitor – We
need people to be responsible for an eight
week class session. This means making sure
the facility is ready; the teacher, assistants,
and students are there and have everything
they need; handling any class specific problems
that may arise; and coordinating/communicating
changes.
Teachers – We need
people reasonably proficient in guitar playing
to teach classes. You do not need to be a
professional because our lessons are for true
beginners. You may teach at one of our current
locations or at a new location near your home.
If your schedule does not accommodate an 8
week class perhaps you could make yourself
available to host an occasional jam session
for the kids or provide extra help to students
who need it.
Teacher Assistants –
We need two or three assistants to help the
teacher during each class. Assistants do not
have to be accomplished guitarists but must
know enough about playing to help individual
students perform the lesson as taught by the
teacher.
Program Chairperson –
We need people to develop a plan and incentives
that will make the program interesting and
fun for the students. For example, should
we serve refreshments at classes; what kind
of rewards or milestones should we have to
recognize progress; what should we do for
graduation at the end of the session; what
would be the best way to get students extra
help between weekly classes; what kind of
activities could we have for students between
class sessions to sustain their interests;
etc. Other GnG chapters have ideas and things
they do in this area to use as a starting
point but we need to put a program together
for us.
Fundraising – We had
a Fairfax County – Aaron Brown Chapter
t-shirt designed (thanks to Emily Dawson)
and so far we’ve sold 480 of them. Now
we need to expand into other fundraising like
concerts, raffles, car washes, etc. to sustain
us over the long haul. We need people to take
the lead on these activities. Also, we are
looking for people to help us write grant
applications to both government agencies and
private foundations.
Business Liaison –
We need people to contact local businesses
to find corporate sponsors and work deals
for purchasing accessories (stands, strings,
picks, etc.) that are not donated.
Facilities – We need
people to identify and arrange for places
where we can conduct classes. This includes
making arrangements for any transportation
issues that may arise in getting student s
to and from the classes.
Partners – We need
people to identify and work arrangements with
other youth organizations that we can team
with; i.e. they provide students and facilities,
we provide teachers and equipment. Also, we
are looking for people to interface with county
child services (foster care, etc.) to help
us identify new students for our program. |
