Benefit Concert at the State Theater

The Rex Foundation sponsored a benefit concert September 14th at the State Theater in Falls Church. GnG Virginia was one of the local charities selected to receive a foundation grant from the proceeds of this event. The opening act was the band “Boris Garcia” from Philadelphia and the featured band was “The New Riders of the Purple Sage” with special guests Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay and Mookie Siegel. It was a fantastic evening of music and socializing with the band, officers from the Rex Foundation, and several notable people in the local music business.

NIGHTMUSIC Performs GnG Benefit Concert

The Annandale Chamber of Commerce needed a band for their annual awards banquet; they offered us a generous donation in exchange for providing the music. Once again the Songwriters Association of Washington (SAW) rose to the occasion and provided the band NIGHTMUSIC to perform on our behalf. The evening was a tremendous success. There were approximately 200 people present and the audience included federal, state and county politicians, local business leaders, and their guests. Folks were dancing in their seats and one chamber member joined the band to sing a rousing version of James Brown’s hit “I feel good” as his first live performance.

NIGHTMUSIC band members from left to right; Bill Cabrera – Lead Guitar/vocals, John Oyhenart- Saxophone/vocals, Ron Goad – Drums/vocals, Chris Johnston – Keyboard/flute, and Gary Morgan – Bass guitar/vocals. The band will be appearing in concert at the Kingstown Town Center on Friday, June 22 and at Lake Royal for the Braddock Nights Concert Series on Friday August 31.
Bring joy to your celebrations; invite NIGHTMUSIC, one of Northern Virginia’s best kept secrets. The band plays a rich repertoire that ranges from popular to classical music, Latin, R&B, and more. You can learn more about them from their website www.nightmusic.biz or by calling John Oyhenart at (703) 919-8155..

Sorority Conducts Benefit for GnG VA

Thanks to the young women in the Nu Kappa Epsilon chapter at Christopher Newport University for sponsoring an Open Mic Night to benefit Guitars Not Guns Virginia this spring. The effort was headed by chapter President Jessica Watson and KK Hoey. KK and Aaron Brown were both members of BSA Venture 990.

The sorority members thought that it was important to give back to their communities so the they voted to host an annual event to benefit a Virginia Charity; they chose Guitars not Guns (GnG). Their first event was a great success and they plan this to be an annual event to benefit GnG.
