VIRGINIA
AFFILIATE
Fairfax
County – Aaron Brown Chapter
Fredericksburg
Chapter
Prince
William County Chapter
GnG
Virginia started in 2006 with the Fairfax County
— Aaron Brown Chapter; in 2007 we added the
Fredericksburg and Prince William County Chapters.
We continue to look for volunteers throughout the
state to start chapters in their locations. Remember,
your donations are important but it is your willingness
to give a little of your time that makes our program
work; as little as two hours a week makes a difference.
We know how busy you are but ask that you seriously
consider volunteering; it will enrich your life
as well as the lives of the children we serve. Whether
you play guitar or not, there is a place for you
in our program.
Our first year had its challenges but everyone persevered
and collectively we made it a success. In our first
year of operation we set up our program at six Northern
Virginia locations. We started last fall with the
Boys & Girls Club Essex House, Sacramento Center,
and Herndon Center; added the Vienna Community Center
in the spring; and added the Boys & Girls Club
Payne Street and Joe Gibb’s Youth for Tomorrow
School this summer. This fall we’ll resume
our program at these 6 locations as well as add
3 new locations; the Boys & Girls Clubs in Falls
Church, Fredericksburg, and Manassas.
We were recently awarded two grants to assist with
capacity building; one through the Department of
Health and Human Services (http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ccf/)
and the other from the Rex Foundation (www.rexfoundation.org
). The funds from these grants will be used
to develop the infrastructure necessary to strengthen
and expand our program in Virginia.

Guitars
Not Guns is a community based organization
and as such we function most effectively when
the community comes together to support a
class in their area. Private donations of
time and money are needed to make it happen.
The support of the local business community
is equally as important. Businesses can provide
support by donating equipment, services or
funds. In return GnG will recognize the business’s
contribution by advertising their support
on our website and in our literature. Please
click on “sponsors” under the
Virginia Navigation Bar on the left for a
list of those businesses in our community
who are supporting GnG VA. We encourage you
to use their services and the next time you
visit them be sure to say thanks for supporting
your local GnG program. |
