about me: For the past 10 years I have practiced Tai Chi for relaxation. I became interested in Guitars Not Guns because I have experienced the healing power of music throughout the most difficult times in my life.In the years that I have lived and worked in Oakland I have seen too many of Alameda County's children and young adults lose their lives or mourn the loss of the lives of their family members and friends to gun violence.I would like to put guitars in the hands of as many of these children and young adults as possible and replace some of the violence and hopelessness with love and hope.
Peace, Patti
A Concert
The first fundraiser for the newly formed Alameda County chapter of Guitars Not Guns took place at McGee’s (1645 Park Street, Alameda) from 7pm – midnight. A number of fine acts performed at this all-acoustic show.
Guitars Not Guns is a fantastic group that provides guitar lessons to foster children… if they complete an eight week course they get to keep the guitar! How cool is that! Often foster kids get shuffled around with very little to call their own.
Let’s give them something to put their energies in a positive direction. The Alameda County chapter is led by Patti Maloney; she will be signing up volunteer teachers, sponsors and supporters at the party. If you are interested but unable to attend, you can contact me. rocko@shamelessselfpromotion.biz

Looking for help. We provide basic guitar lessons to underprivileged kids and teens.… |
What I'm working on.
* I have been working with local community newspapers to publicize our needs on a regular basis and to get publicity in the future.
* I have also begun contacting music stores and guitar teachers who may themselves be interested or may have adult students interested in gaining the experience of teaching students.
* I am advertising regularly on Craigs list; for teachers, city coordinators and of course donations(thanks Nick for the info)
* Last, but certainly not least…I am seeking a vice president and a treasurer, and ultimately an advisory group of co-coordinators from the various cities in Alameda county.
