The Acousti Car

The Acousti Car was first displayed in 2005 at the San Jose Art Museum .

Coast to Coast run for Guitars not Guns Music Program in 2008 is now in the works. Check back occasionally for updates.

It all started with this 1968 Ford Ranch Wagon from Santa Cruz, California .

Hot Wheels...!

A 390 Cubic Inch Ford V/8 engine that smokes the rear wheels. This Car has power steering and power brakes.

Specs: 14 feet long - 7 foot high

Body made from 18 guage steel.

Nearing completion a test drive around the block on June 22, 2004 proved successful. TV interview Channel 5 - San Francisco, CA

4th of July Parade 2005 - Morgan Hill California

In the beginning there were dreams and a lot of work ahead.

The Dashboard and Steering W heel were moved back 2 feet and raised up two feet to fit inside the guitar..

The Acousti Car and the Guitarbike.

Both sculptures were built in San Jose, California by Ray Nelson (Founder of Guitars not Gums)


Ray Nelson, (photo above) built this 10 foot guitar sculpture dubbed the Guitcycle in 1981 and then rode it round trip from San Francisco to New York in 1982. - Listed in Ripley's "Beleive it or Not" as the only guitar ever ridden coast to coast. The guitarbike also appeared on the Disney Channell at the Petersen Museum and many festivals and museums across the USA.

The book (Ripley's Special Edition) is available at all Barnes & Noble stores.

"Nashville, Tennessee "- Ray and his Guitarbike were seen on the Country Music Awards in 1982 plus a feature story in the Nashville Banner newspaper. In 2001 Ray was the guest speaker for the Kiwanis Club in Franklin, TN. He also appeared on the Discovery Channel in 2004 Ray Nelson became a foster dad in 1992. It was through his experience with foster kids that he started looking for guitars to give them. Guitars not Guns was eventually formed in 2000.
